LIASE Groups Attends the 4th Auto Shanghai Summit 2015 and the 16th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition

Summary: LIASE Group Board of Directors Wolfgang Doell, John Bukowicz, and Vanessa Moriel were in Shanghai this April to participate in the 16th Shanghai Auto Show and the 4th Auto Shanghai Summit. This was an opportunity for LIASE to connect with important global automotive industry players and further strengthen their global automotive expertise.

The Shanghai Auto Show was preceded by the 4th Auto Shanghai Summit 2015 at the Westin Bund Center in Shanghai. Held under the theme of Innovation & Integration – To Create a New Phase of Development for the Intelligent Connected Car Industry, the summit attracted high level speakers, particularly from Chinese and foreign automotive companies operating in China.

 

LIASE Group MD Asia Vanessa Moriel moderated the opening roundtable and CEO Keynote Speeches on the topic of How to Respond to Opportunities & Challenges Brought by Intelligent Connected Cars. Panelists included: Lü Zhengyu, Vice President of the LeShi “Supercar” Company; Wang Binbin, Deputy Manager of the Strategy and Planning Department of Dongfeng Motor Corporation; Dr. Xu Daquan, Executive Vice President of Bosch (China) Investment Ltd.; and I.P. Park, Harman International Executive Vice-President and CTO.

 

Other speakers at the event included: Zhu Huarong, CEO of Changan Automobile Company Limited; Zeng Qihong, General Manager of the Guangzhou Auto Group; Wang Xia, President of the China Automotive Industry Trade Promotion Committee; Zhang Xiyong BAIC General Manager; Cheng Jinglei, SAIC Head of Engineering; and Wang Wentao, Ford China Vice President and CFO.

 

“Both Chinese and foreign OEMs are increasingly developing new business models and technologies in link with the development of intelligent connected cars,” said Vanessa Moriel. “We have been working closely with our clients to respond to the very high demand for experienced executives who can advance the connected car agenda through a combination of technical know-how, business savvy and cultural sensitivity.”

16th Shanghai Auto Show

Under the Theme of Innovation for Upgrading, this year’s Shanghai Auto Show was once again the focus point of the world’s automotive industry, as 109 cars were unveiled, including 52 models from international brands. Of the total 103 unveilings were for new energy vehicles. A Reflection of the success of the automotive industry in the middle kingdom, Auto Shanghai 2015 is estimated to have attracted more than 800, 000 people.

The Shanghai Auto Show has become a must for the world’s top automotive executives. This year, automotive executives participating in the event included: Nissan-Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, Ford CEO Mark Fields, GM CEO Mary Barra, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth, Volvo Cars President and Chief Executive Officer Hakan Samuelsson, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, BMW AG CEO Norbert Reithofer, Continental CEO Elmar Degenhart, PSA Peugeot Citroen CEO Carlos Tavares,  Volkswagen Member of the Board responsible for China Jochem Heizmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Development Heinz-Jakob Neußer, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer; Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG Rupert Stadler, Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Škoda Auto Winfried Vahland, and Mercedes Benz Head of Marketing Ola Kallenius.

Amongst the new cars unveiled by global carmakers at Auto Shanghai: Ford showed its new Taurus; Nissan unveiled the Lannia, a new mid-size sedan specifically conceived for the Chinese market — as well as its Murano hybrid SUV; Geely unveiled its first model developed using Volvo technology, the Borui Sedan; Toyota unveiled a new RAV4 Hybrid; Audi revealed the Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI Quattro and the A6L e-tron, along with the A3 Sportback e-tron; General Motors introduced a plug-in hybrid variant of its Cadillac CT6 sedan; Mitsubishi unveiled two plug-in hybrid SUV concepts; Hyundai introduced a plug-in hybrid version of its new Tucson SUV; BMW debuted its first-ever plug-in hybrid, the X5 xDrive40e; Buick unveiled its second-generation mid-size Verano sedan; McLaren debuted the 540C; Mercedes-Benz introduced a GLC Coupe Concept; and Volkswagen showed off its new C Coupe GTE concept.

Chinese limousine maker Hongqi launched the new LS5 full-size luxury limousine in Shanghai. The new SUV was one of the most talked about vehicles unveiled in Shanghai. The LS5 will be competing with cars such as the Porsche Cayenne, the BMW X5, and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Hongqi, which is owned by FAW, has a certain prestige in China due to its historical links with the communist leadership.
